The theme for this year's annual Halloween Bash is Heroes and Villains. The club has been redecorated for the evening, and it seems as though each corner has a different theme. And we're not talking the campy sixties type stuff, but the more recent movies from both Marvel and DC.

One half of the room is DC, complete with areas that look like the Batcave, the Fortress of Solitude, Arkham Asylum, and the Legion of Doom's lair, which has dartboards that have various heroes faces on them.

The other half of the room has the Avenger's Tower, The ship from Guardian's of the Galaxy, a throne in space with Thanos, and Hydra's lair.

They all meet in the middle at the dance floor, which gives off a kind of supernatural glow that seems to throb along with the music.

All the employees are dressed for the theme, as various heroes and villian's sidekicks and henchment.

"Yeah, lots of folks love Cap," Evan says, turning around, then pausing when he sees who's speaking to him.

[Let's say he's not.]

Mia's face registers flat out shock for a moment when this Cap turns around. "Oh." It takes her just a second or two to get over the surprise. Then she offers a very small, but genuine smile.

"Hi. Evan, right? I don't think we ever actually met."

She's friendly, but not overly so. She's well aware she's not really liked by Will or his husbands. Doesn't mean she can't be amiable.

Evan nods. "We haven't actually met, no."

His expression is impassive. He'd forgotten Wes and company are friends with her, so of course she'd be here.

That reaction is about the best she figures she could hope for. "For what it's worth, it's nice to finally meet you."

She wants to offer her hand for a handshake, but has a feeling he wouldn't accept it. And then surprising herself, feeling stupidly hopeful, she offers her hand out anyway.

Evan looks at the offered hand and, because he was raised properly, takes it and gives it a cursory shake. He can't bring himself to say it's nice to meet her, though, no matter how much he knows that would upset his mama. He isn't fake.

She's not surprised he doesn't return the sentiment, and she'd rather he not be fake either. But the fact he shook her hand makes her beam at him. That's at least a sign he doesn't hate her.

"So," she takes a second to think of a topic to fill the silence, "you still in the military?" It's not just a topic to fill the silence, though. She's genuinely curious.

He narrows his eyes slightly. "What are you doing?"

She refuses to let his attitude intimidate her. Mia tilts her head slightly. "Talking. Being in the military is something we have in common," she replies simply.

"So, I'm just supposed to ignore the fact you blew up at my husband?" he asks, a slight smirk on his face. "Because I'm not really interested in finding out what we have in common."

"...I didn't realize I'm the only person to ever accidentally snap at a friend before. But hey, you're right," she replies dryly. "What was I thinking. I'm a bitch for trying to make it right and I'm a bitch standing here being friendly to you."

Her tone isn't aggressive or curt, and there's only a slight touch of sarcasm. She mostly just sounds resigned or even disappointed.

She'll move away at that point unless he responds.

"You know, anyone else probably would have just apologized," Evan says softly, "but that response right there? That pretty much tells me everything I need to know about you. Will doesn't need high maintenance drama like you in his life, trust me. Great meeting you." The last statement is dripping with sarcasm as he turns back around to finish his drink.
