Halloween Party (backdated like a mofo)

The theme for this year's annual Halloween Bash is Heroes and Villains. The club has been redecorated for the evening, and it seems as though each corner has a different theme. And we're not talking the campy sixties type stuff, but the more recent movies from both Marvel and DC.

One half of the room is DC, complete with areas that look like the Batcave, the Fortress of Solitude, Arkham Asylum, and the Legion of Doom's lair, which has dartboards that have various heroes faces on them.

The other half of the room has the Avenger's Tower, The ship from Guardian's of the Galaxy, a throne in space with Thanos, and Hydra's lair.

They all meet in the middle at the dance floor, which gives off a kind of supernatural glow that seems to throb along with the music.

All the employees are dressed for the theme, as various heroes and villian's sidekicks and henchment.

It's not clear if Mia would understand it anyway.

"Yeah... do angels come from anywhere else?" she asks uncertainly.

As evidenced by her question. The concept of heaven is something she doesn't really understand and tries not to think about too much, even though she knows several angels.

"I don't know if there are angels on other planets."

"Actually I do know one, but does that mean there's more than one heaven or afterlife for each galaxy? Or is it all one big thing? Is the afterlife in my galaxy the same as the one here? If it even exists?"

It's obvious from her face that this line of thought is clearly hurting her brain.

Gabriel smiles. "I only know of the Heaven that was my home once and of the humanity on this planet that my father created. If he was the one who created living beings on other worlds, I know nothing of it."

"Let's say there's an afterlife." Sorry, Gabriel, Mia's still iffy on religions and afterlives. Yes, even though she knows angels.

"If I die in this galaxy, do I go to your afterlife? Or do I go to the afterlife in my galaxy? If there is one." This conversation sounds so strange, Mia suddenly lets out a small laugh. "I don't think I'm drunk enough for this."

Gabriel thinks about this for a moment. "It's my experience that souls will return to wherever they came from. The souls of humans originate in Heaven and return to either Heaven or Hell upon death. I've never heard of an alien soul going to my Heaven or Hell when it dies, so it must go somewhere else. I know aliens have souls because of what happened to Wes, but..." He shrugs. "I can't tell you anything else about it or begin to speculate about your galaxy."

"That's true... Wes did have a ghost after he died so there must be some sort of afterlife..." She throws Gabriel a wry look. "I guess I won't see you then when I die."

This is a really weird conversation..... Mia can't decide if she's had too much alcohol or not enough.

Gabriel likes having talks like this, but he would totally understand Mia's feelings since it is all sort of strange.

"You wouldn't see me even if you were human," he says. "I'm no longer welcome in Heaven."

She stares at him in confusion until words finally kick in. "What? Why not?"

"Because of the choices I've made," he says, "but I don't want to bore you. Let's just hope that you don't have to find out about your afterlife any time soon."

"You aren't boring me. Why aren't you welcome? Isn't that your home?"

Gabriel sighs and takes the seat next to her. "I had been in some hot water with Heaven when they found out about my relationship with Lucifer and Jason. They threatened to take away my memories of everyone I cared about and make me return to Heaven if I continued. They still believed I was good enough to be part of Heaven," he says, sounding a little wistful before he takes a deep breath and continues.

"Grace shielded me from their eyes, however, and I was able to continue the affair. Now, Heaven knows what she did, they know that she and I are married, and they've given up on me ever being redeemed or worthy of returning home. They've...severed ties with me." He frowns. "I'm a fallen angel now."

That's a lot of information to process and she's not sure how to react first. "You guys are married now? Congratulations!" She's very happy for them but then her face falls somewhat.

"Why wouldn't you be good enough to be part of heaven? I mean, I don't like Lucifer or Jason but that doesn't mean I'd shut you out for it. That's just... that's just cold."

See, this is another reason she hates religion.

"Lucifer was booted from Heaven and rules Hell, I am an archangel, a messenger of God. Consorting with Satan is against Heaven's orders, so I've done this to myself."

She considers this, her expression glum. "Are you happy?" she asks.

He nods. "I am, though I know that my happiness is going to have a greater cost than no longer being allowed to go home."

"What do you mean? You can't say that and not explain."

"The trust of the people closest to me is going to be tested very soon," he says. "That's all I know."

"Is this like a seeing the future thing? Can you do that?"

"Sometimes I can see someone's entire life path laid out before them, but things are more limited when I'm directly involved."

"Do you ever see mine? No, wait. Don't tell me about it if you did."

She sighs. "I don't know what I could do, but I'm always here if you need anything."

"No, I can only do it for humans from this planet," Gabriel says, "and I don't really like doing it all that much, to be honest. Part of what I love about humans is being surprised by them. But there are some things..."

He sighs and gives her a small smile. "I appreciate that, Mia. Truly, I do."

Her brow furrows. She doesn't like that Gabriel seems so burdened by something, like there's a weight on his shoulders that's too heavy.

"Do you need me to punch someone for you? I dunno if you're allowed to do that, but you look way too sad. I'll happily punch someone for you, just name them."

Gabriel chuckles softly. "That is a very generous offer, thank you, but I don't think I should let anyone resort to violence just yet. And it might have to be directed at me, anyway."

"It's not that generous, I like punching people. Especially people who deserve it."

She watches him for a moment. "What's going on that you would say that?"
